During a demonstration that resulted in violent clashes between police and protesters who tried to bring down the Columbus statue in Grant Park, Officer Nicholas Jovanovich was caught on video striking activist Miracle Boyd in the face.
Chicago police Superintendent David Brown unsuccessfully argued for leniency Thursday for an officer who punched an activist about two years ago at a large protest, and now that officer faces firing.
In Thursday’s ruling, a member of the Chicago Police Board overruled Supt. David Brown’s recommendation for a lighter punishment for the officer involved in the fatal crash in 2019.
