Even as Mamata Banerjee’s All India Trinamool Congress scored a massive victory, West Bengal CM and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee has lost in Nandigram Assembly constituency. She was defeated by her former aide and BJP candidate Suvendu Adhikari by 1736 votes. Mamata has conceded her defeat in Nandigram whereas the party won with a thumping majority.
In a nail-biting thriller victory, Suvendu has been declared as winner by the Election Commission after the final round of counting. This is in contrast to previous reports of Mamata winning Nandigram constituency by 1200 votes.

Meanwhile, the ruling TMC is leading in 212 of the 294 Assembly seats in the state and is set to return to power for a third term.

In a significant development in the West Bengal elections, state Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee won the Nandigram Assembly seat by 1200 votes.
There was a tough fight between her and BJP s Suvendu Adhikari and a cliffhanger battle was expected in the high-profile constituency. When the counting of votes began at 8 am, Adhikari had taken a lead and after trailing for nearly six rounds, with the TMC chief Mamata Banerjee finally grabbing significant lead till the end of the 15th round. Tables turned in the 16th round and Mamta started trailing behind. However, Mamata again took the lead in the final round and defeated Adhikari.

Nandigram Election Result 2021 LIVE: Counting of votes for the Nandigram Assembly constituency in West Bengal started at 8 AM on Sunday (May 2) and it is expected that first trends would start coming in in an hour or so. All eyes will be on Nandigram which went to poll in the second phase of elections on April 1. Nandigram witnessed a high-pitched battle between TMC Supremo and Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee and former TMC leader and now BJP candidate Suvendu Adhikari. Apart from Mamata and Suvendu, Left front candidate Minakshi Mukherjee was also in the fray from the Vidhan Sabha seat.

Mamta’s former aide, opponent and BJP candidate Suvendu Adhikari is leading by over 8000 votes. These are the early trends. It is to be noted that the counting is still underway and the result may swing eitherways.
Suvendu had won Nandigram in 2016 on TMC ticket. But Nandigram has been a bastion for the Trinamool Congress as the party has been winning the constituency since 2009. Suvendu had parted ways with TMC and joined BJP ahead of polls.
