This month has not been great for Hudson Valley commuters. With feet of snow falling on local roads and this week s freezing rain, just getting to work on time can be a major accomplishment. On Wednesday a different type of obstacle was backing up traffic and causing delays for some confused commuters in the Hudson Valley. Traffic reporter Nancy Reamy even did a double-take when reporting that a pony was the cause of some early morning backups.

The expected snow that began to fall early Tuesday has greeted commuters with another morning of slick roads. Accidents were already being reported long before the rush hour. Jsut after 6am Route 17 was backed up in both directions in Orange County after a car skidded off of a road on the southbound side and another disabled vehicle jammed up the northbound lanes. After 7am Hudson Valley traffic reporter, Nancy Reamy, said that traffic was backed up for miles on both sides of the Taconic State Parkway. southbound traffic was reportedly jammed due to several accidents. Major Snowfall Blankets Hudson Valley Roads Thursday Morning Snow accumulations of a foot and more are making travel tough for Hudson Valley commuters on Thursday morning. Early Thursday saw snowfall amounts in Poughkeepsie just under a foot. Some areas received much more, and the winter storm isn t finished just yet. A. Boris Thursday morning is turning out to be a tough travel day, with plows having a tough time keeping up with the falling snow. Major roads throughout the Hudson Valley are passable, but speeds are reduced due to wind-driven snow that is causing visibility problems. There are travel bans in effect throughout the Hudson Valley with municipalities asking only essential personnel to be on the roads. Empty tractor-trailers and tandems are not being allowed on I-84, the New York State Thruway and other major roads.
