anniversary. early this tuesday morning, may 10th, 2011. captioning funded by cbs good tuesday morning. i m erica hill. sg good morning. i m chris wragge. incredible, the pictures we have been seeing. the mississippi river in and around memphis, luckily, there is some good news here. as bad as this looks, the river is cresting here. further sousth it is going to gt much, much worse. it is awful, well into june. the mississippi river at this point, three miles wide in memphis where it is normally just about a half mile wide. it is cresting just below the record setback in 1937. flooding has covered pockets of homes but has spared the city s downtown and world famous musical landmarks including beale street. even though some areas have been spared, it is not easy going for some people? reporter: it is not easy at all. it is going to be painful going. the mississippi has finally crested or at least it looks that way. a lot of water and a lot of worry. the hope is tha

produced a really high cloud of smoke that was spotted from miles away. right now it s not clear if the plane was taking off or landing that time of the crash. we will continue to work that story and bring you more details here this morning. crews in the gulf are working to kill the blown out well permanently. bp calls this effort a huge milestone. crews pump a special mexture of what they call heavy mud into the blown out well for eight hours and now engineers are waiting to see if they will pump cement therein, as well. government scientists will announce that most of the oil leaked from the well is gone. 80% of the oil was captured or broken up and the political side of this story continues to unfold. senator harry reid pulled back the oil spill legislation. the bill would have lifted the $75 million liability cap forchuck damages after an oil spill and the obama administration end its ban on deep water drilling. it could end in significance of the planned november date.
