ELKINS PARK The Cheltenham School Board appointed a temporary replacement during a virtual meeting ahead of Superintendent Wagner Marseilleâs departure, the school district announced in a statement.
The nine-member board selected Nancy Hacker, former Springfield Township School District superintendent, to fill the position on an interim basis. Her start date has not yet been announced, according to a school district spokesperson.
âWe are thrilled to announce the appointment of Dr. Hacker as interim superintendent as we search for our next superintendent. Dr. Hacker brings an enormous amount of experience, expertise and wisdom to this role, and we are grateful to her for her service,â said School Board President Joel I. Fishbein in a May 5 statement.

In the decades leading up to the Civil War, Portland was home to an alternative weekly newspaper named the Pleasure Boat that championed a vegetable diet. The Pleasure Boat, first published in 1845 by reformer and missionary Jeremiah Hacker, is the earliest known vegetarian publication in Maine. The newspaper supported many causes including abolition, women’s rights and temperance – all closely tied to the era’s vegetarian movement.
