Pahoa Man Charged for Felony Abuse and Firearm Offenses

Hawai‘i Island police have charged a 47-year-old Pahoa man with felony abuse and firearm charges stemming from an incident in lower Puna. On Wednesday, April 28, 2021, Puna police made contact with a 29-year-old woman at the Pahoa police station who reported that her boyfriend, identified as Raymond Robello Dias IV, had punched and strangled her at his residence in Nanawale Estates.  The woman also reported that Dias took her phone from her when she tried to call 911 and prevented her from leaving the residence for several hours. While speaking with officers, the woman also reported that Dias threatened to kill her and provided information regarding Dias having firearms at the residence.

Hawaii Island police say 65-year-old Dean Jones was arrested around 11:30 a.m. Friday. Jones is accused of firing shots and lighting fires at a home on Plumeria Road in Nanawale Estates. When authorities arrived at the home Jones was barricaded in, they began negotiating with him as he remained armed.

PUNA, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - A police standoff with a barricaded suspect in the Big Island’s Nanawale Estates has ended with the suspect in custody. It started Thursday afternoon when witnesses near the area of Plumeria and Flower roads say they heard gunshots. Police soon went door-to-door, evacuating nearby residents. The scene continued overnight with little movement. The suspect was finally taken into custody just before noon Friday. Hawaii County Police have not released additional details. This story will be updated.
