在今年夏季，太陽系的兩大行星－土星、木星都很適合觀測，8月2日土星將到達「衝」的位置，表示太陽、地球、土星三個天體排成一直線，此時就是土星的最佳觀測位置，在「土星衝」的前後數周非常容易觀察，看起來又大又亮。
南瀛天文館表示，在傍晚太陽西落後，土星從東方地平線升起，直到凌晨日出時才落下，土星在8月大約會位於摩羯座附近，因摩羯座較無明顯亮星，使得土星成為該天區最亮的天體，易於辨識且整夜皆適合觀測。
土星衝期間土星的「視星等」達到0.2等，用肉眼就直接看到，「視直徑」約為18.6”，若利用天文望遠鏡觀測可清楚地看到美麗的行星環，幸運的話還有機會可以看到土星的衛星。
南瀛天文館表示，近幾個月不僅可以親眼目睹土星的迷人風采、另一顆耀眼動人的木星也會出現在附近。8月2日(一)土星衝晚間7：30
