countries. club promoters recruit models right here in new york city. jennifer introduces me to a woman named linka, a working model who lived in what s called a promoter apartment for the past several years. how do you find yourself in a promoter apartment? in new york city there are gentlemen that work as night life promoters and literally get paid by nightclubs for bringing beautiful women in a club. for them to make sure they have certain amount of girls every night, they started promoter apartment, which means the girls live there. they usually don t pay rent, but in exchange for the free living, they go out certain amount of the nights of the week. usually like three or four nights a week. do you have to go out three nights a week? yes, that s part of the deal. if you don t, then obviously you will be asked to leave the apartment. i know when i tell people like oh, i live for free and i get to go to these vip nightclubs and
drink for free, they are like oh my goodness, why are you complaining, but they don t understand you have to wake up early in the morning, go to the castings and usually don t get back until 4:00 in the morning. how safe was it for you to be out there at clubs until the wee hours? their promoters are absolutely sweet and great friends but there are promoters that don t care, exploit them, pour them extra drinks and leave them behind at 3:00 in the morning and not taking them home and, you know, like i myself got left behind by a promoter and then i got attacked on a subway later. after three years of clubbing for rent, linka finally had enough. while she still models, her partying days are over. if you put it under your arm, we can act out how it s going to look. new york clubs rarely let cameras beyond the velvet rope
but linka agreed to take my producer and me inside. the easiest thing to do is to take them in in bags and show us around and see if there are young models and promoters and see how the process works. do promoters make a lot of money from doing this? yes. i mean, a good promoter can get thousands a night. if they work five, six nights a week in one month, they make a lot of money. it s thursday night, 30 minutes to midnight and we re about to go clubbing. even on a weeknight, new york city never sleeps. and if you re a model whose rent is covered by a club promoter, neither do you.
