Police registered a case under Sections 302 (murder), 376 (rape) and 392 (robbery) and later issued a statement claiming that a 17-year-old local, who worked in one of the jaggery units, had been arrested in connection with the incident.
Officers say the workers’ shed was likely to have been set on fire in connection with the rape and murder of a 27-year-old woman who was killed in March, for which the woman’s family and local residents had blamed migrant workers.
The incident is the latest in a series of attacks allegedly perpetrated by some Jedarpalayam residents, in the wake of the murder of a 27-year-old woman in the village two months ago.
