VIENTIANE (Vientiane Times/Asia News Network): The government has vowed to diversify energy sources in Laos by placing more emphasis on renewable energy sources, particularly electricity generated by solar, wind and biomass systems.
The SET moved mostly sideways in July, opening at 1,568.33 points and closing at 1,576.41, representing just a 0.5% month-on-month rise. That said, there was a period during the month when the index took quite a swing, reaching a low of 1,517.51 in mid-July before rebounding to its peak of 1,576.68 before closing at 1,576.41.
SET-listed Electricity Generating Plc (Egco) is playing down a water leakage at its Nam Theun 1 hydropower plant in Laos, saying it is "normal" when a dam starts to reserve water.
