Eastern Cape premier Oscar Mabuyane has suspended the head of the department of education, Naledi Mbude, over the delay in delivering textbooks and the forfeiture of a R200m grant meant for school infrastructure.

Just less than a year after assuming office as the provincial education department administration head, under-siege superintendent-general Dr Naledi Mbude was on Tuesday placed on suspension by Eastern Cape premier Oscar Mabuyane. Mbude, who was appointed to the hot seat in June 2021, was placed on precautionary suspension on Tuesday, pending some investigations into her department operations.
