The newly opened Nakasi Health Centre will be outfitted with 17 beds recently given by the People’s Republic of China.
The centre is Fiji’s sixth hospital-based isolation facility, the third in the Central Division, in addition to the Navua Hospital and Colonial War Memorial Hospital.
Chinese ambassador to Fiji, Qian Bo said the People’s Republic of China stood in solidarity with Fiji in its efforts to contain COVID-19.
“China and Fiji are comprehensive strategic partners,” he said.
He said China would continue to provide anti-pandemic supplies and was willing to share best anti-pandemic practices as well as send special medical teams, if necessary.

The People’s Republic of China has donated 17 hospital beds worth $25,500 aiding Fiji with its current response to COVID-19.
The assistance is mobilised in appreciation for the work undertaken by the Fijian Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MHMS) to contain the COVID-19 cases.
It will enable MHMS to equip the newly-opened Nakasi Health Centre that has been converted into Fiji’s sixth hospital based isolation facility, and the third in the Central Division in addition to Navua Hospital and CWM Hospital.
In acknowledging this assistance, Minister for Health and Medical Services Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete thanked the People’s Republic of China for their support to Fiji’s Health sector.

The Fijian government in a statement says this will enable the Health Ministry to equip the newly opened Nakasi Health Centre, that has been converted into Fiji’s sixth hospital based isolation facility, and the third in the Central Division in addition to Navua Hospital and CWM Hospital.
Health Minister Dr. Ifereimi Waqainabete has thanked the People’s Republic of China for their support to Fiji’s Health sector.

This has been confirmed by the Ministry of Health and Medical Services.
The Makoi Health Centre was closed for decontamination after a woman who tested positive for COVID-19 presented to the health centre earlier this week.
It has also been confirmed that Nakasi Health Centre is now a COVID-19 isolation facility while Naulu Nursing Station is open for non-COVID-19 patients.
A COVID-19 screening clinic is also at Gospel Primary School in Valelevu.
