MJ Long Prize 2021 judges announced
Pooja Agrawal, Takero Shimazaki and Christina Gaiger join Sal Wilson on the judging panel for this year’s MJ Long Prize, part of the AJ/AR’s W Awards 2021
The MJ Long prize nominees are Hannah Anderson of Walters & Cohen, Alice Brownfield of Peter Barber Architects, Ingrid Petit of Feilden Fowles and Naila Yousuf of Wright & Wright. The award is named in memory of inspirational architect, lecturer and writer Mary Jane (MJ) Long.

Anderson was nominated for her role in an extension to St Paul’s School in west London; Brownfield for her work on the Kiln Place housing scheme; Petit for the design and delivery of the widely publicised The Fratry for Carlisle Cathedral; and Yousuf in respect of the soon-to-be-completed Museum of the Home, London.

Walking around the soon-to-open Museum of the Home (formerly the Geffrye Museum) in London, Wright & Wright’s four partners, even socially distanced and masked up, exude a good-humoured ease as they talk with zest about its design.

The immediate impact of Brexit has been limited according to UK-based architects, but they fear that winning work and recruiting staff in the European Union will now become harder.
The immediate impact appears to be quite minor, said one of the 14 studios Dezeen approached for comment on how the UK s departure from the EU has affected them now the transition period has ended.
However, many firms believe that the biggest long-term impact will be on recruitment, with several studios reporting a loss of EU staff.
