Prima facie it appears that the fire broke out following a short circuit. A doctor and a nurse were on duty at the time of the incident.
The fire brigade was deployed and the blaze was brought under control.
Dr Khandate said some babies were delivered at the hospital while others were brought from outside.

NAGPUR: A couple’s bid to experiment with sex proved costly as the man died in a hotel at Khaparkheda in Nagpur district on Thursday. According to police, Ziauddin Ansari, 28, was tied by his neck to a window grill, his hands behind the back and legs to a chair with different ropes.
The family of the deceased has alleged that the incident is a well-planned murder by his girlfriend who is in her 20s. However, the police have registered it as an accidental death. As per the initial forensic report, the cause of death is ‘constriction of neck’. There were ligature marks on Ansari’s neck.

NAGPUR: Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh has ordered an inquiry into the fire incident at the Sick Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) of Bhandara District General Hospital.
At least 10 newborn babies were killed and seven others had a miraculous escape after a fire broke out in the wee hours of Saturday.
Deshmukh, who was in Mumbai, flew to Nagpur and headed to Bhandara to visit the hospital. He is also expected to conduct a meeting of the concerned officials of the health department, hospital and police officers.

NAGPUR: Swift actions of Fire Brigade personnel and security guards at the Bhandara district hospital in Maharashtra saved the lives of seven infants admitted at the Special Newborn Care Unit following a fire incident on early Saturday, but unfortunately ten other babies were not that lucky.
Sharing this information with reporters at Nagpur airport, state home minister Anil Deshmukh also said that experts at the National Fire College and the Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) in Nagpur are investigating the cause of the fire.

NAGPUR: In a verdict that would bring relief to thousands of employees working as recovery agents with banks and financial institutions, the Nagpur bench of Bombay high court has ruled that demanding outstanding loan amount from a defaulting person cannot be construed as abetment to suicide.
Recovery agents were often held responsible in case defaulters end their life after failure to repay the loans. Recently, many such suicides have taken place across the country after people availed instant loan from app-based companies. After being unable to repay the amount, many such debtors faced harassment from recovery agents, who publicly defamed such defaulters on social media and also called their family members and friends.
