'Conduct counselling, encourage SSLC repeaters to write exams'

Describing the initiative as the need of the hour, Child Rights Trust director Nagasimha G Rao demanded the education department to conduct counselling on a regular basis to motivate and encourage students who hesitate to write SSLC examinations. “The counsellors have to tell the students that the writing examinations are just one part of life, and failing in examinations is not a crime or the end of the world as there are opportunities to attempt them again,’’ he said.

Teen pregnancy count raises alarm in Karnataka

Meanwhile, child rights activists have welcomed the CM’s directive to the Chief Secretary to form a task force with various departments to ensure the effective implementation of various acts aimed at children’s welfare. “I want the government to ensure the functioning of various committees formed for the welfare of children and to create awareness on the POCSO Act. Arrangements have to be made for counselling for children at the school level. Care should be taken to avoid embarrassment to the adolescent girls who are pregnant,” said Nagasimha G Rao of Child Rights Trust.
