AAA A forest guard at Chennampatti Forest Range died by suicide in a forest area here on Monday.
Police said Prabakaran (28) from Nagamalai Pudukottai in Madurai is unmarried and was living with his mother Rajammal at Ganapathi Kattur in Anthiyur area. On Monday evening, villagers alerted the Forest Department that the body of a man was found at Kombu Thukki Mariamman Kovil forest area.
Officials from Anthiyur Forest Range identified the victim as Prabakaran and Bargur police sent the body to Government Hospital at Anthiyur. A case under Section 174 Cr.PC was registered and postmortem was done on Tuesday and the body sent to his home town.

AAA Two persons riding a bike, C. Gobu, 49, and S. Punniyamoorthi, 50, of Oothupatti near Chekkanoorani, were killed on the spot when an unidentified vehicle fatally knocked them down on Theni highway on Monday night.
Police said that Gobu, a former member of Oothupatti panchayat, was riding the bike towards Chekkanoorani from Madurai. When it was approaching Madurai Kamaraj University, a private bus and a truck had passed them at high speed and one of the vehicles hit the bike.
The police added both the vehicles did not stop. Nagamalai Pudukottai police are investigating to identify the two vehicles and the driver who knocked them down.

S. Angayarkanni (29), wife of K. Sivarajan (33), one of the two firemen who were killed in the roof-collapse at a textile shop here while fighting a fire in the early hours of Deepavali day, committed suicide on Monday.
Police said Angayarkanni was found hanging in the house of her parents at Seenivasa Colony under Nagamalai Pudukottai police station limits. She was rushed to Tirupparankundram Government Hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.
A mother of two sons, aged six and one, Angayarkanni had been depressed following her husband’s death even after she moved from her in-laws’ house at Chekkanoorani to her parent’s house in Nagamalai Pudukottai, the police said.
