Naga’s mother is from India and her father is from Mauritius.
She did not tell her parents about the incident, but her mum, in particular, could tell something was on her mind.
“I loved school, had a thirst for learning. But I didn’t want to go to school,” she explained to The Independent.

“She [her mother] didn’t push me, but she went to speak to my dad and then they both came in and asked why. I started crying.”

Naga Munchetty was on air at a different time than usual today as she presented BBC’s Panorama which was exploring race and racism in Britain. The BBC Breakfast presenter wanted to find out about the different forms and variations of racism and speak to those who have experienced it. She openly discussed the first time she received racist abuse at the age of seven and the comments she receives, as an adult, for her presenting position on the BBC.
