wage or giving women a few days off after they have a baby. those are deemed too ambitious to have even the slimmest chances, but somehow our broken congressmanaged to put their differences aside, reach across the aisle and pass significant legislation, greasing the skids for a massive 12-nation trade deal. it s called the transpacific partnership, or tpp, and you ve likely heard of this because the president s been making the case to skeptical progressives. critics call it nafta on steroids. the terms of the deal are not yet public, but we do know it touches everything from environmental protections to labor regulations to patent law. in fact, only five of the 29 draft chapters of tpp actually deal with what you would typically think of as trade. so, why is it that this huge multi-layer deal is able to escape the normal laws of d.c. gravity in a town where even the decision whether or not to pay our bills is controversial? the answer says a lot about how d.c. works and who exactly it

and sometimes people and workers get many the way of profit. the other chart that we showed was a chart with mexico. we re behind with them too. since nafta. we ve documented time and time again numbers about how many jobs have been lost since nafta went through. this deal, the tpp, is nafta on steroids. this is going to be quite a tap-dance at the state of the union as i see it because i don t believe president obama in any way, shape, or form is going to be talk about raising wages in this country, doing the minimum wage, being fair to workers without talking about the true issues of trade that are killing our workers. and we re on the verge of doing fast track and we re on the verge of doing the trans-pacific partnership, which is only going to be nafta on steroids and it s only going to add to those charts. in fact, we re going to be doing deals with countries that they say are going to compete with china. yeah, with our jobs.
laborers. this cuts to the guts and the heart and soul of our economy, something that no one has explained, arguably will gut american jobs. do i have your attention yet? we are pursuing transatlantic and transpacific trade deals. it is the biggest and baddest of the trade deals yet. it will be nafta on steroids. these deals are not working for america. the standard of living in america will go down if this big trade deal goes through. it is not about union labor. this is about american labor. american jobs across the board. it is about the secrecy. why can t they show this bill to the public, to congress? it is finally starting to get the attention in congress that it absolutely deserves. we can get president obama thinking correctly on this.
