While Ohio State defenseman Sophie Jaques did not win the Patty Kazmaier Award for her historic season leading the Buckeyes to a national title, she was named this week as the national women’s college hockey player of the year by USCHO. Ohio State coach Nadine Muzerall was also named as the national women’s hockey coach of the year by USCHO.
Despite leading Ohio State to a national championship with one of the most productive seasons ever for a defenseman in women’s college hockey, Sophie Jaques did not become the Buckeyes’ first-ever Patty Kazmaier Award winner. That award, which honors the best player in women’s college hockey, was given to Minnesota forward Taylor Heise on Saturday.
