The proposed hub would be located in a vacant newsstand at 72nd Street and Broadway near the 1/2/3 train stop, where around 31,000 straphangers pass through every weekday. It’s part of a $1 million pilot program by Mayor Adams and Sen. ator Chuck Schumer, aimed to improve working conditions by providing a place for delivery workers to rest, repair their gear and recharge their e-bikes.
The group representing food delivery workers said Tuesday they’re scrapping plans to convert a popular local newsstand in the Bronx into a street hub for food delivery workers after the Daily News reported that the City planned to give the Nabila Newsstand the boot.
Mayor Adams pledged last Fall to transform vacant newsstands into “street hubs” for bike-riding food delivery workers to rest, recharge their e-bikes and access repair their gear. But the Nabila Newsstand in the Bronx is open, and the community is outraged it is being shut down.
