UK Double Handed Offshore Series - Jago (Mike Yates and Eivind Bøymo-Malm) © James Moreland This is a new race series for doublehanded offshore boats founded by Henry Bomby whose shorthanded career includes four Solitaire du Figaro campaigns. The objective is to cherry pick the best Offshore Races each year and combine them into one season long series. The series is for professionals, amateurs, Olympic hopefuls and young and up and coming talent looking to make a name for themselves. May 1st was our first race a 16.5-20hr 91NM race run by RORC. The course started from the RYS line , went East past the Nab Tower then south of the Ilse of Wight and over to Peveril Ledge before 3 reaching laps of Poole Bay finishing at North Head.

Two Handed Success for J/109 Jago in First RORC Overnight Race of the Year 2nd May 2021 58 entries including 29 IRC Two-Handed teams racing overnight for the first time this year Credit: Rick Tomlinson The Royal Ocean Racing Club organised two races over the May Bank Holiday weekend. 58 boats entered, including a 91nm race for IRC Two Handed, the first overnight race of the year. Giovanni Belgrano’s Classic Whooper won the race for crewed IRC boats. Mike Yates’ J/109 Jago, racing with Eivind Boymo-Malm, was the winner for IRC Two-handed.  Giovanni Belgrano’s Classic Whooper Photo: Rick Tomlinson A race of approximately 24nm was set for the IRC Crewed boats, essentially a windward leg from the Squadron Line to Bembridge Ledge Buoy with a reciprocal downwind leg back. David Collins’ Botin IRC 52 Tala took line honours in just over four hours. However, the breeze built during the latter part of the race, giving an advantage to the smaller boats.
