Doig River First Nations wants to develop an urban reserve in Dawson Creek and presented the process to mayor and council at the city's September 25th meeting.
Similar to Naache Commons in Fort St. John, the proposed urban reserve would add to the business capacity of the city, and bolster the nation’s independence.
Doig River First Nation recently opened its community-owned micro gas station to continue moving the community toward self-reliance and sustainability.
Members of the Doig River First Nation are marking the beginning of a new community business hub in Fort St. John. It's part of a larger reclaimation of land stripped away from Indigenous communities and opened for settlement in the early 1900s.
