India: DMK Chief Stalin takes oath as Tamil Nadu CM

The Governor also administered the oath to 33 other lawmakers as the Ministers.
Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) President Muthuvel Karunanidhi Stalin was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu by Governor Banwarilal Purohit at Raj Bhawan on Friday.
After a gap of 10 years, the DMK with Stalin at the helm comes back to power for a sixth time in its history by winning the 2021 Assembly elections securing a comfortable majority on its own.
The 68-year-old Stalin wearing white shirt and dhoti came to Raj Bhavan at about 9am.

While taking Oath, As Stalin read out his full name amid cheers and claps, his wife Durga Stalin and Chepauk MLA and son Udhayanidhi Stalin broke down in tears. Pictures and video of Durga Stalin shedding tears of joy have gone viral on Twitter, as many commented how it was an extremely emotional moment for her, given the years of political turmoil and struggles that finally culminated into this historic milestone for her husband.

The leaders of DMK allies, including the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K S Alagiri, MDMK chief Vaiko, VCK president Thol Thirumavalavan, CPM state secretary K Balakrishnan and CPI state secretary R Mutharasan were present at the swearing-in ceremony.
Former deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam and former assembly speaker P Dhanapal represented the AIADMK at the event. The PMK was represented by its president G K Mani.
The BJP was represented by L Ganesan MP. Actor and MNM president Kamal Haasan and political strategist Prashant Kishor were also present.
The members of DMK’s first family were present and notable presence was the first-time MLA and Stalin’s son Udhayanidhi and M K Alagari’s son Dhayanidhi and daughter Kayalvizhi. Alagiri had greeted Stalin on the eve of swearing in ceremony, in an indication of a patch-up between the siblings.
