MEDIA practitioners in Zanzibar have been urged to maintain and honour the government of national unity (GNU) in the Indian Ocean archipelago with the aim of bringing unity and solidarity to all Zanzibaris.

Director of the Tanzania Media Women s Association (TAMWA, Zanzibar) Dr Mzuri Issa made then call over the weekend when speaking at one-day media training to journalists. The training was meant to honor the importance of reconciliation in the country.
Dr Mzuri said the existence of reconciliation in the country is an important factor that also leads the country to make further progress as peace is the most important value for every country that needs economic growth. She said journalists have a responsibility to ensure that every citizen of Zanzibar benefits from the presence of a national unity governm

New awards lined up for journalists in Isles
THE Zanzibar committee on media freedom will this year introduce awards for journalists in five different categories as part of honoring the good work that journalists are doing.

The deputy chairperson of the committee Dr Mzuri Issa made the remarks at the department of communication of the State University of Zanzibar (SUZA) Kilimani, Unguja in Zanzibar.
He said this year’s celebration will be different as a way of celebrating the good work that journalists are doing.
Among the awards to be given include the blue economy award, Government of National Unity category which has been named the Maalim Seif award.
WOMEN who are holding various political positions in Zanzibar were yesterday challenged to come up with a better strategy that will inspire their counterparts to follow their footsteps.
