97 cases of black fungus reported in Karnataka since covid outbreak: Health Minister News Network May 17, 2021 Bengaluru, May 17: As many as 97 people in the state contracted mucormycosis, also known as black fungus, as post-Covid complications in Karnataka, state Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar said on Monday. Till yesterday 97 people contracted this (black fungus) disease in the state, Sudhakar told a press conference after a meeting with experts on the black fungal infection. He, however, appealed to the people not to panic as it does not spread like Covid. It did affect a few people in the state, which I accept.compared to previous years, this year it is more in number, the Minister said.

The number of such cases has risen exponentially and has posed a challenge for experts who say counselling such a huge number of people is next to impossible. Since Sunday, three Covid-19 patients – all senior citizens in Old Mysuru region – ended their lives. The suicide of a retired deputy tahsildar in Chikkamagalur was perhaps the most shocking. The trend is increasing in North Karnataka districts too.

COVID-19 vaccination: Mysuru tops in giving life-saving shots

Updated: Share Article AAA After registering an extraordinary achievement of 126% in vaccination against COVID-19 on Saturday, Mysuru has continued to top the State in vaccination coverage, ahead of Bengaluru. Though short of the target and also below Saturday’s record jabs, the district achieved 70% coverage on Sunday, which also happened to be the highest in the State. As against the target of vaccinating 25,050 persons, Mysuru gave the shot to 17,510 on Sunday. Mysuru has been steadily expanding its vaccination coverage and topping the State as part of its battle against the pandemic since doctors and experts believe that immunisation is the best way to minimise complications in case of an infection spread.
