Impractical rule, say exhibitors

Impractical rule, say exhibitors Updated: Updated: Share Article AAA The Mysuru district administration’s decision making COVID-19 negative report (RT-PCR test done within 72 hours) mandatory to watch films in cinemas here has not gone down well with the exhibitors who have called it “impractical” and argue that such a decision would make things even more hard for the crisis-hit single-screen cinemas. While urging Deputy Commissioner Rohini Sindhuri to reconsider her decision, Mysuru Film Exhibitors’ Association Secretary M.R. Rajaram said the decision will lead to collapse of single screens which are facing losses since last one year over the pandemic. “The shows with 50 per cent seating capacity are already causing losses and this decision is like indirectly telling us to shut down business,” he felt.

Wait gets longer for single-screen cinemas to resume shows

Theatres await clear guidelines on seating capacity and revised SOP Despite the Union Ministry of Home Affairs easing curbs on the capacity of audience in cinemas, with continuous drop in COVID-19 cases in the country, film exhibitors are not prepared to reopen single-screen theatres as they await clear guidelines from the government on seating capacity and the revised SOP. This means, the wait for film enthusiasts has become longer as the exhibitors want to assess the situation before throwing open theatres after nearly 10 months. With most exhibitors suffering losses and unable to face further loss by running shows for a smaller audience, a clear picture on the reopening of theatres would emerge once the guidelines are out, mostly by February 1. Until then, many exhibitors have decided to wait and watch.
