Connecticut cast its seven Electoral College votes for President-elect Joe Biden on Monday, normally a perfunctory postscript to a presidential election. The state’s GOP chairman was ready to move on, even if President Donald J. Trump was not.
“This is the process that has played out,” said J.R. Romano, chair of the state Republican Party. Romano accepted the result but refused to say if Trump should, too. “All that matters procedurally is that the Electoral College voted today. That’s all that really matters.”

HARTFORDÂ (AP) â All seven of Connecticutâs electors cast their ballots Monday for Democratic President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris in an unusual, socially distanced ceremony at the state Capitol that some electors called an honor of a lifetime, especially during these politically turbulent times.
âI am positively thrilled. I have to tell you that this is the most exciting day of my life,â said John Kalamarides, a former chairman of the Wilton Democratic Town Committee. He added it was âdisturbingâ to see Republican President Donald Trump and his supporters question the validity of the elect

The Electoral College meets in all 50 states on Monday. In New York and Connecticut, officials have decided, reluctantly, to hold the event in person, despite the rising rate of the coronavirus.
Connecticut’s presidential electors convened in the Senate Chamber of the state Capitol in Hartford to cast official ballots for president and vice president. Secretary of the State Denise Merrill oversaw the proceedings.
There are seven all-Democratic electors from Connecticut: Susan Barrett, John Kalamarides, Dana Barcellos-Allen, William Smith, Myrna Watanabe, Anthony Attanasio and Nick Balletto, who is a former Democratic Party chairman. They elected a chairman, vice-chairman and secretary of the electors, and voted for Joe Biden as the next president of the United States and Kamala Harris as Vice President on paper ballots.
