5/28/2010: North Dakota was not a state when the North and the South fought the Civil War from 1861 to 1865. However, a multitude of Union veterans moved into Dakota Territory in the years after the war had ended.
There have been so many times when I wished you could come back again to the United States. I figured you could find your way to Winnipeg. Then you could take a bus down here to “the Forks.” I think you would like to see the grounds of the University of North Dakota as well as our city parks.
It’s a few years since I have written to you here through the Herald. I just realized that when I read of your 96th birthday in April. I guess I have told you before that I would be catching up with you on my birthday in May.
