My First Day at School

Back to school for 9.2 million children, including 1.2 million first-time Kindergarten children UNICEF 26 January 2021 The scene is slightly different, but the sounds remain the same: last week schools reopened in Ghana for the first time since the first cases of coronavirus were identified in the country 10 months ago.  Now, children and teachers wear nose masks, greater attention is given to washing hands with soap and running water, and seats are more widely spaced out.  Yet the sense of vibrancy, optimism and peals of laughter all feel very familiar.   Approximately eight million children - ranging from kindergarten through to senior high school – returned to the classroom last week, eager to adhere to the COVID-19 safety protocols and to learn.

Agyeman JAN 21, 2021 “My First Day at School” which marks the reopening of schools academic year saw the Regional Education Director for Ahafo Region Madam Lucy Ama Ankrah, officials of the Tano North Municipal Assembly, and the Municipal Directorate of the Ghana Education Service visiting public schools in the Municipal to mark the day. Interacting with the students, the Ahafo Regional Director of Ghana Education Service, Madam Lucy Ama Ankrah welcomed the students especially those entering school for the first time and urged them to study hard to become responsible adults and sound a word of caution to parents that, though the President would provide nose masks and hand sanitizers to the pupils, they should also provide some for their wards and advised them to wear it always.

The team which was divided into groups to cover the various educational zones saw the MCE, MCD, and MED leading their various groups with each group presenting educational materials, soft drinks, and goodies to the new entrants.
