leaving before we would actually have the opportunity to start trial and present his testimony, and that s the reason it was set when it was. so from the state s position, number one, for whatever reason the defendant and his counsel didn t show up, we think that should constitute a waiver of the right to presence. simply not coming isn t really isn t really a reason to bar the direct testimony. my proposal, my counterproposal, is that we play the direct, and there was one exhibit that he identifies during the direct and i intended to introduce, play the testimony of the direct, introduce it, and if counsel wishes to cross, then hopefully he would be available tomorrow, but i can t, obviously, i can t guarantee that, given the locations and places. and that s the reason we move to perpetuate in the first place. and if they want to cross at that time, that s fine.

and so have the republicans not just introduced privatization and abolition of medicare and their paul ryan budget, i think president obama would have had a lot more room to talk about potential changes to the program. in that context, i think all that the democratic base in particular wants to hear president obama say about medicare is i will defend it from the people who are trying to abolish it. my counterproposal, to what they re offering, no, you re not going to get that. so the line in the sand is a bottom line issue for the democratic base. well, that said,รง there are some liberals, if you look at his voting record, dick durbin qualifies as a liberal, the only war he voted for was afghanistan, voted against the iraq war, and we went to a briefing with him this morning, and he said that liberals are going stages of grief. he said we need to get past denial on spending, that when he entered the talks, the gang of six, those six three republicans and three democratic senators
