GATVOL residents of Alexandria and Oakley, near Bushbuckridge in Mpumalanga, have shut down six schools for almost two weeks.
They’re demanding water, high-mast lights, a police station, bridge, clinic and that the road connecting Marite and Tekamahala villages be tarred.
Protest leader Solomon Maile told Daily Sun the Bushbuckridge Municipality had been taking them from pillar to post over a bridge and tarring of the road.
“Councillors and mayors have promised us a bridge and tarring since 2 000, but nothing came forth,” said Maile.
“They promise the same things during the elections. Kids suffer when they go to school as streets are badly damaged to the extent cops and ambulances can’t access our homes during emergencies.”

GATVOL residents of Mathibela in Alexandria and Oakley, near Bushbuckridge in Mpumalanga, have shut down six schools for two weeks, demanding better service delivery.
They carried placards demanding running water, high mast lights, a police station, a bridge, a clinic, for the road connecting Marite and Tekamahala villages to be tarred off, and the upgrading of the donga access streets into the village.
