A total of 23 utility developers - including French majors EDF and Total; Japan s Marubeni; Korean heavyweight Samsung C&T as well as Greek builder GEK Terna - have been prequalified for the Saudi Round 5 solar projects with a capacity of 3700MW.
Saudi Arabia released a request for qualification for competition for four new solar projects within the fifth phase of the National Renewable Energy Program (NREP). The Saudi government is exerting efforts to replace fuel with gas and renewable energy sources in electricity production. The Saudi Power Procurement Company (Principal Buyer) recently signed two power purchase agreements with a total capacity of 1,500 megawatts.
