Plans for the new Wallyford Learning Campus were approved by East Lothian councillors. And the council’s planning convenor, Councillor Norman Hampshire, said that the state-of-the-art school would make Wallyford one of the “best communities in East Lothian”. Members of the council’s planning committee met virtually today to consider a planning application on behalf of the local authority for the new school. It will include not just a secondary education facility for up to 960 pupils but also a school of excellence for pupils with severe and complex needs, an adult day care centre, and tots and teens facility. It is expected to open in 2024.
JODIE Hannan has told of her pride at becoming the first female headteacher of Musselburgh Grammar School, which celebrates its 400th anniversary in five years’ time. Asked how she felt about her new appointment, which has brought her from the tropics to the Honest Toun, the 47-year-old mum-of-three told the Courier she was “delighted”. She said she did not realise she would become the school’s first female headteacher until the present headteacher, Colin Gerrie – who is bound for a new job in Dubai – told her. “That really is history in the making, along with an incredible 400-year anniversary to look forward to,” she added.
A THIRD school within a matter of days has confirmed a new headteacher will take the reins. West Barns Primary School will welcome Christine Rednall to the role, with a start date yet to be announced. Currently an education support officer – leadership learning with Midlothian Council, Mrs Rednall will replace Laura Hay, who was moved from acting headteacher at West Barns to depute headteacher at the nearby Dunbar Primary School. Mrs Rednall was previously depute headteacher of Mayfield Primary School in Midlothian. The appointment comes on the heels of Musselburgh Grammar School and North Berwick High School confirming new headteachers.
