Diskussion Zum zweiten Mal seit Ausbruch der Corona-Pandemie findet in Saudi-Arabien ab Sonntag die muslimische Wallfahrt Hadsch (Hajj) statt. Die Zahl der zulässigen Pilger wurde von 10.000 im vergangenen Jahr auf rund 60.000 Gläubige erhöht. Das ist immer noch ein Bruchteil der mehr als zwei Millionen Muslime, die sich 2019 an der Wallfahrt beteiligt hatten. Hunderte Muslime trafen bereits am Samstag in Mekka ein. Wie im vergangenen Jahr sind keine ausländischen Pilger zugelassen. In Saudi-Arabien wurden bisher 507.000 Infektionen mit dem Coronavirus und 8.000 Todesfälle im Zusammenhang mit Covid-19 gemeldet. Zehn Prozent der Bevölkerung des Königreichs sind laut Statistik-Website Our World In Data vollständig gegen das Virus geimpft, weitere 43 Prozent haben eine erste Dosis erhalten.
