A Lahore man has been sent to jail for not telling his second wife about his first marriage. Arfah Naz has claimed that Rehmat Ali had lied to her about his marriage, adding that she tied the knot with him thinking he is single. The woman lodged an FIR against Rehmat at the Shahdara police station when she came to know two days after the marriage that the latter was married and had children too. She demanded that Rehmat should be punished for deceiving her. A district court sent him to jail on judicial remand. Section 6(5) of the Muslim Family Laws Ordinance, 1961 states that a man is required to submit written permission from his first wife if he wishes to marry another wom.

Moosavi cautions against amending Muslim family laws

ISLAMABAD: Patron in-Chief of Supreme Shia Ulema Board Quaid-e-Millat-e-Jaffariya Agha Syed Hamid Ali Shah Moosavi on Sunday said after the disputed curriculum, the amendment bill for the Muslim Family Laws Ordinance 1961 is an intervention in Fiqah Jaffariya.
“Prime Minister Imran Khan must take notice of the continued interference in already settled matters. The Shia school of thought must not be downplayed. We are the heirs of Haider-e-Karrar Hazrat Ali and when we decide about taking action, we never step back,” he said while addressing the core committee meeting of Tehreek-e-Nifaz-e-Fiqah Jaffariya. He made it clear that none would be allowed to make amendments not only to personal but also the public laws.
