Straker Foundation awards grants View Comments ZANESVILLE - The J.W. & M.H. Straker Charitable Foundation recently awarded nearly $1.6 million in grants to various local entities. This included $100,000 to support a new county talent recruitment and retention program.  Major grants included $600,000 to Muskingum University for health and wellness center support, $100,000 to the city of Zanesville for community development and park renovation, $92,669.65 to Dresden for the community swim center, $90,000 to Muskingum County History for building renovations, $52,991.09 to the dog warden for keen construction and security cameras, $50,000 to Eastside Community Ministry for building construction, $50,000 to Trulight Ministries for homeless program support and $50,000 to Zanesville Community Theatre for facility upgrades.

Here s your chance Conservation District looking for an artist to decorate storm drains View Comments ZANESVILLE - The Muskingum Soil and Water Conservation District is sponsoring a contest to decorate storm drains in the city of Zanesville.  Artists of all ages are encouraged to apply by submitting an application downloaded from the district s website, along with an 8x11 rendering of their storm drain artwork. The art should have a theme of protecting watersheds, said Ashlee Kopchak, the district s education and information specialist.  We want something original talking about how protecting water ends up protecting wildlife, or water quality, she said.

Local News Briefs: Genesis changes visitation policy Staff Report Genesis changes visitation policy ZANESVILLE - Genesis HealthCare System has announced changes to its visitation policy during the COVID-19 pandemic, offering more flexibility with visitors related to the decline in local case numbers.  Patients are now allowed two visitors in their room at a time, including patients in the Critical Care Unit (CCU). All visitors must wear a mask, maintain social distancing of at least six feet and wash hands frequently. Visitors should enter through the main entrance of Genesis Hospital and check in at the information desk. Patients who are COVID-19 positive or are in quarantine are not permitted visitors to protect everyone’s health.
