Straker Foundation awards grants

ZANESVILLE - The J.W. & M.H. Straker Charitable Foundation recently awarded nearly $1.6 million in grants to various local entities. This included $100,000 to support a new county talent recruitment and retention program.
Major grants included $600,000 to Muskingum University for health and wellness center support, $100,000 to the city of Zanesville for community development and park renovation, $92,669.65 to Dresden for the community swim center, $90,000 to Muskingum County History for building renovations, $52,991.09 to the dog warden for keen construction and security cameras, $50,000 to Eastside Community Ministry for building construction, $50,000 to Trulight Ministries for homeless program support and $50,000 to Zanesville Community Theatre for facility upgrades.

members and the community honored J. William Straker at a memorial service on
Saturday, May 1, 2021. That afternoon, the Trustees of the J.W. & M.H.
Straker Charitable Foundation met to approve grant awards totaling almost 1.6
million dollars.

Trustees are the children and grandchildren of J. William and Mary Helen
Straker, who established the Foundation.
The J.W.
& M.H. Straker Charitable Foundation will announce a smaller competitive
grant cycle for Fall 2021.

Library Reading Programs for Young Readers
MUSKINGUM COUNTY, Ohio- The Muskingum County Library System is promoting and encouraging young readers to take part in its reading and online events.
There are many ways for kids to get involved with reading and learning at the John McIntire Library. In celebration of Earth Day, the library is giving out free kits and hosting a virtual experiment event on Wednesday at 10 a.m. A video will be available on the MCLS Facebook page allowing kids to follow along and learn how to make a flower and seed bomb and a rain gauge using a 2-liter bottle.
