steve: this morning the first victims have been identified. more to come. rachel: that s right. and grady trim somebody live from highland park with the latest on this trealgd. grady? good morning, steve, rachel and brian. this is the police station where police say they brought the gunman after that 8 hour manhunt finally came to an end yesterday. police say that he opened fire from the roof of a downtown business with what they described as a high powered rifle just after 10:00 yesterday morning at highland park s fourth of july parade. families, including children and parents scrambled, ran for their lives as gunshots rang out. it was frightening. it was very frightening. we are okay. we are okay, right. how many shots did you hear? 40, fifth. i don t know. tons, and it went on for a minute or more. police say five adults died at the scene. one other person died at the hospital. the family of nicholas say the grandfather, who was visiting from mexico,
isolated to the chicago area. we have fox team coverage tonight. molly line is in boston covering the surge and independence day shootings in major cities around the u.s. but we begin with senior correspondent mike tobin in highland park with the latest on the tragic fourth of july massacre. good evening, mike. police say he dressed like a woman to avoid identification. he wrapped rifle in red blanket. from that roof top, he fired 70 rounds in rapid fire succession. the weapon is now described as similar to an ar-15. a high powered rifle. it was discarded on the roof. he then blended in to the crowd and fled to his mother s house before escaping all the way to madison, wisconsin and then returning to where he was picked unjust six miles from this location. authorities did have run-ins with him back in 2019. first a suicide threat. then a threat to hurt others. the matter was being handled by mental health professionals at that time. there was no law enforcement action to be
25 of those with gunshot wounds. now, just moments ago as you may have seen police announced they nowha have a suspect. robert bobby crimo iii, age 22. he is believed to be driving a 2010 silver honda fit, described as a white male, approximately 18 to 20 years old, small build, long black hair, wearing a white or blue t-shirt. police also recovered what they believe to be the weapon,po a high-powered rifle. they said the suspect should be considered armed and dangerous. local authorities have beenns holding a press conference just about every n hour. so we expect to hear from them again soon. obviously, the last update signified significant progress in the manhunt investigation. we re going to bring you that conference once it begins. so stand by here. i want to play you some video that appears to show the moment that this all started. i should warn you, of course, it s really ldupsetting video. you will hear gunshots. you will see people fleeing. and it is in fact very dist
