MUSKEGON (WOOD-AM) - A settlement has been reached between the Muskegon County Sheriff s Office and the family of a jail inmate who died after suffering 17 seizures while in custody.
Terms of the deal with 39-year-old Paul Bulthouse s family were not disclosed.
The family filed a suit against the county, the sheriff, sheriff s deputies and nurses at the jail.
Attorney General Dana Nessel filed involuntary manslaughter charges against four guards and a jail nurse last month.

MUSKEGON, Mich A section of M-120 in Muskegon County will be named in recognition of a sheriff’s deputy who died in the line of duty more than 26 years ago.
The state Senate this week passed a bill to designate a portion of M-120 as the “Deputy Ernest W. Heikkila Memorial Highway.’’
House Bill 4053 passed the state House in March. With approval in the Senate, the bill now goes to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer for her signature.

MUSKEGON COUNTY, Mich. â Jean Dresen, a member of the Muskegon County Sheriffâs Office Victim Services Unit, has died, according to Sheriff Michael J. Poulin with the Muskegon County Sheriffâs Office.
Weâre told she passed away on Monday while surrounded by family.
Jean devoted herself to community members and served as VSU Secretary until she passed, according to Poulin.
The sheriffâs office also says Jean cared for a number of animals for Heaven Can Wait Animal Haven.
Horse killed in Muskegon County car accident ‘saved all of our lives,’ says injured girl

MUSKEGON, MI - After spending over a week in the hospital recovering from her injuries, 12-year-old Adriana Helsel returned home Thursday after a car struck her and a friend while riding their horses.
The horses, Jack and Dottie, died in the April 5 accident that injured the girls, absorbing the bulk of the car’s impact, police said.
Helsel’s continues to mourn her horse, Jack, who she said protected her and her friend, Layla Neiser, 12.
“Jack, he kind of saved all of us,” she said on April 15. “He was so big he kind of slowed the car down a little bit from the impact.”

MUSKEGON, MI – A sunny spring day turned tragic last week when two 12-year-old girls riding horses down a Muskegon County road were hit by a car.
Adriana Helsel and Layla Neiser survived with injuries, but their horses, Jack and Dottie, died in the April 5 crash that spawned fear, grief and an effort from a local woman to raise money for new horses.
