MEMBERS of Island choirs and other local singers are being invited to take part in a national music project to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III.Sing for the King will involve choirs from across the British Isles giving performances on Sun.

An online concert featuring over 100 musicians will take place to mark 76 years since Jersey s Liberation.
The Virtual Liberation Day Celebration will be streamed via the internet, featuring local artists as well as acclaimed musicians from around the world.
It has been organsied by Music in Action, A Jersey Charity which aims to inspire children to take up music and give help and support to the elderly and infirm.
Of course lock-down hasn’t been as difficult as life for those in the occupation. But for islanders today, as we look back at the panic about whether there would be food in the shops, the stay at home orders and curfews, the ban on travel, will probably be the closest that we get to experiencing those terrible times.

A special sitting of Jersey s States Assembly has taken place to mark 76 years since the island s Liberation.
The event was livestreamed online, with only a limited number of States members able to attend due to coronavirus restrictions.
Also in attendance was Jersey s Lieutenant Governor, Sir Stephen Dalton.
In a speech, Deputy Carina Alves thanked the Occupation generation for their sacrifices which laid allowed so many to live their lives in peace and freedom. My family and many others chose to make Jersey our home. Many moved here for the peace, safety and freedom that Jersey offers them. For me it is a time to come together as a family, as friends to celebrate and remember how fortunate we are to have these freedoms. To recognise that there are places in the world who do not experience the same liberties as we do.

This year marks the 76th anniversary of the Channel Islands liberation.
Jersey and Guernsey were freed from Nazi occupation on 9 May 1945.
Sark residents were given their freedom a day later.
While celebrations to mark the day have been scaled back, many of the events will be streamed online.

Jersey
Due to Covid-19 a major public event has not been planned for this year.
The Chief Officer for Jersey s Bailiff s Chambers says the continuing restrictions on numbers makes it impractical to hold a larger event and it is also unrealistic to put on an event with only 20 people.
