KRCU s Mary Mims recently spoke with Dr. Timothy Schmidt, professor of music, at Southeast Missouri State University, who is the music director and maestro for the upcoming production of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart s, The Marriage of Figaro . The opera will play at the Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall on the River Campus at Southeast Missouri State University, Fri. Jan. 29 at 7:30 PM and Sun. Jan. 31 at 3 PM.
It is the first time an opera has been presented on SEMO s Campus during the era of COVID-19. The staff has incorporated necessary safety procedures into rehearsals and performances.
In order to facilitate the necessary precautions, Music Faculty, Dr. Leslie Jones, and Dr. Timothy Schmidt collaborated to update the time period of the opera, shortened the show by changing the specialized recitative sections to English dialogue, made some judicious cuts, and decided to sing Mozart’s glorious music in the original Italian, according to the performance notes

Briar Cliff University employees celebrating service milestones, a group that has served a combined 295 years at the university:
50 years of service: Marian Pesky, Champions of Character Coordinator.
40 years of service: Dr. Richard Steinbach, Chair/Professor of Music; Dr. Judy Thompson, Professor of Business Administration; Dr. Paul Weber, Professor of Chemistry.
20 years of service: David Viers, Security Officer.
15 years of service: Bernice Metz, Executive Assistant to the President.
10 years of service: Dr. Wendy Brame, Chair/Associate Professor of Sociology & Criminal Justice; Dr. Regan Murray, Associate Professor of Psychology; Dr. Jeremy Owens, Associate Professor of Music; Joseph Privitere, Head Wrestling Coach; Dr. Gretchen Wheelock, Associate Professor of Nursing.

Byron Wright – Kadina High School
With an ATAR of 87.85, Byron’s HSC results included achieving 2 Band 6 and 3 Band 5. Byron said he had enjoyed his time at Kadina High and the HSC had been a real test.

Alyssa McDonald has achieved early entry into Biomedical science at Southern Cross University and also received a chancellor’s scholarship.
