She was born on May 23, 1941, and started her professional journey as a Dental Therapist before she married late Murtala in 1962 and they settled down into matrimonial life. On Friday, February 13, 1976, life dealt a fatal blow and death claimed the life of Nigeria’s beloved hero General Murtala Ramat Muhammed and the Head of State of the Federal Republic of Nigeria at a prime age of 36 years old, in a failed coup.
It was indeed a challenging mantle left on the shoulders of a young 33-year-old widow now solely responsible for the welfare of her children and their many adopted nieces and nephews. Many of which have gone on to be extremely successful in their professions and careers. Since General Murtala Muhammed, Dr Ajoke Murtala Muhammed, like a trojan has been determined and relentless in her pursuits.

The foundation, in a statement, on Saturday, said it is celebrating healthcare givers for being at the forefront of stemming the tide of the COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria.
According to foundation’s Chief Executive Officer, Aisha Muhammed- Oyebode, “through these frontline healthcare workers, we are reminded of our shared humanity as Nigerians.
“In the words of Woodrow Wilson ‘There is no higher religion than human service. To work for the common good is the greatest creed” and it is against the backdrop of this reflection that we dedicate the commemoration of the 45th anniversary of the 4th Nigerian Head of State, General Murtala Muhammed in celebrating COVID19 frontline healthcare workers in Nigeria.

The Murtala Muhammed Foundation (MMF) on Saturday said it is resolved to use the 45th anniversary of the late Head of State, General Murtala Muhammed to celebrate the COVID-19 frontline healthcare workers in Nigeria.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Foundation, Aisha Muhammed- Oyebode, made this known in a statement, saying through these frontline healthcare workers, one is reminded of the shared humanity as Nigerians.
This was just as she declared that there was no higher religion than human service in the words of Woodrow Wilson, the 28th president of the United States from 1913 to 1921.
“Through your every act of courage and service to country, the spirit of General Murtala Muhammed lives on. We celebrate you!” the Foundation CEO to the workers.

Mrs Muhammed-Oyebode had served as interim chairperson and brought her vast experience to the Board.
