Louis T. Ziegler
Louis T. Ziegler, 90, passed away Tuesday February 9, 2021, at Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk, NY after a brief battle with COVID-19.
He was born on May 6, 1930 in Weehawken NJ, the son of the late Peter and Irene Ziegler.
Moving from West New York, NJ as a young boy, his family came to Dunkirk where he attended school and graduated from Dunkirk High School in 1948.
After graduation he began working for Geiben Bros sanitation until he enlisted and served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953 and was stationed in Paris, France. When he returned from his military service he enlisted in the Army Reserves for 5 years and went back to work with Geiben Bros until he took a job with the Dunkirk City School District in 1958 as a custodian. He worked for the district for 33 years and retired in 1991 from Dunkirk Senior High School as head custodian.

Thomas L Ziegler, 65, of Union, Mo., formerly of Dunkirk, N.Y., passed away on Sunday, Jan. 17, 2021.
He was born in Dunkirk on Feb. 17. 1955, the son of Louis and the late Geraldine Ziegler
Tom, also known as “Zig” or “Ziggy” was a 1973 graduate of Dunkirk High School.
After graduation he began work at the former Plymouth Tube Company in Dunkirk.
From there his eagerness to learn and his vast knowledge of the aluminum and extrusions business led him to various positions in Maryland, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi and finally in Union, Mo., where he held the title of president of Gateway Extrusions of Union.
Dems sought for Brocton, Portland posts
The Brocton-Portland Democratic Committee is looking for anyone interested to run for the follow positions in the November election: Chautauqua County legislator District 7, Portland town supervisor, town clerk, town council, highway superintendent, tax collector and a Brocton village trustee position.

COVID-19 cancels exercise classes
The Grape Belt Senior exercise class is being paused due to the rise in local COVID-19 cases. The organization said it will reevaluate the situation in several weeks.
