The first batch of a Chinese-made coronavirus vaccine is set to arrive in Turkey by early Wednesday, state-run Anadolu news agency reported, citing Turkish Airlines.
Three million doses of CoronaVac, developed by Sinovac Biotech, will arrive in Istanbul by 6 a.m. local time on Dec. 30 and shipped to Ankara on Thursday evening, Anadolu said.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on Monday that the vaccine would arrive in Turkey before the new year, talking to reporters after a cabinet meeting in the capital, Daily Sabah reported.
Turkey signed contracts to purchase 50 million doses of CoronaVac and is planning to purchase at least 4.5 million doses of a vaccine developed by U.S. pharmaceutical giant and BioNTech, a German biotechnology company.
