Orders closure of boarding schools in 4 LGAs By Laleye Dipo The Niger State Government has confirmed the abduction of 42 persons by bandits in Government Science College, Kagara, Rafi Local Government Area of the state on Wednesday. The incident, according to Governor Abubakar Sani Bello, who addressed a news conference after an emergency State Executive Council meeting in Minna, said 27 of those abducted were students, three members of staff and 12 members of the families of the kidnapped staff. Bello also confirmed that “unfortunately, one of our students was shot dead” and gave the name of the deceased student as Monday Benjamin S Doma.

No fewer than 20 people have been abducted and scores of others injured by gunmen who attacked Maitumbi and Kuchi communities in Bosso and Munya Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Niger State. The Chairman of Bosso LGA, Abubakar Gomna, confirmed the incident in Maitumbi to Channels Television on Monday, saying the attack lasted almost two hours. He disclosed that armed men numbering over 30 attacked the community at about 11:30pm on Sunday and opened fire on some residents. “The gunmen came in their numbers and started shooting sporadically. Some members of the vigilante group tried to stop them, but they overpowered the vigilantes.
