Broadsheet Commission identifies persons for making $1 5m to wrong firms

National April 2, 2021 ISLAMABAD: The Broadsheet Commission, headed by Justice (retd) Azmat Saeed Sheikh, has identified around a dozen officials/ persons for making apparently wrong payments of US$1.5 million to the wrong persons/ firms in 2008, which were otherwise not entitled to receive such payment from the Government of Pakistan. In its over 450-page-long report, the commission named these persons who were lynchpin of the settlement agreement. Role of lawyers Ahmer Bilal Soofi, a NAB representative in Pakistan, to discuss the deal with Broadsheet LLC (Isle of Man) and Ahmed Tariq Rahim, local counsel for the International Assets Recovery (IAR), LLC, has also been discussed in the commission report, exclusively made available with Geo News.

National February 1, 2021 LONDON: The former National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman General Munir Hafiez told London High Court that Broadsheet was provided all help by Pakistani authorities and clearly told as late as November 2002 to find assets of Nawaz Sharif and continue investigating him but failed to make any recoveries or trace an assets outside Pakistan. Lieutenant General (retired) Munir Hafiez served as NAB’s powerful chairman between 1st November 2001 to 31st October 2005 and he authorised termination of the contract with Broadsheet LLC and International Assets Recovery (IAR) towards the end of 2003 after realising that Broadsheet was providing no “tangible” help.

National January 29, 2021 LONDON: The Broadsheet LLC hired a detective agency, Matrix Research Limited, to investigate Nawaz Sharif and eight members of his family at a total cost of around £500,000, but the information gathered about the Sharif family did not impress the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) investigators who were looking for seriously actionable evidence of wrongdoing and illicit wealth, court exchanges demonstrate. Sir Anthony Evans noted in his judgment that the whole story of Broadsheet and NAB agreement started in the late 1999 when Nawaz Sharif was deposed and Pervez Musharraf took over with zeal to clean up Pakistan and repatriate the alleged stolen wealth.
