50% of Assam s adult popn yet to be given vaccines | Guwahati News

Representative image GUWAHATI/SHILLONG: Erratic supply of vaccines has slowed down the pace of immunisation to the extent that if the third wave were to hit the state in August, about 50% of Assam s adult population would be vulnerable as they have not been fully vaccinated. Amid third wave concerns, the Meghalaya government upped its vaccination drive by roping in community and religious leaders in the hill state to overcome hesitancy. Tripura is in a better position because it has the highest vaccination record of its targeted population. Assam being the gateway to the northeast, the shortage of vaccines has become a matter of concern.

North eastern states falling behind in vaccinating 18-plus group | India News

GUWAHATI: The northeastern states are lagging behind in the 18-44 age group vaccination, which crossed the one crore-mark in India under Phase-3 of the drive on Monday. Even as Assam administered over four lakh doses in the category, none of the other six NE states could cross even the one lakh figure since May 1. Among the NE states, the highest 4,33,615 doses for 18+ beneficiaries have been administered in Assam. The numbers however, may depict a wrong picture, as there is an estimated population of 1.8 crore in the state between 18-44 years. Except for Tripura, which managed to cross the 50,000 mark (53,957 doses), the rest of the states are far behind in inoculating the young people. Arunachal Pradesh has vaccinated the 18-44 population with 17,777 doses. While Manipur could administer only 9,110 doses for the 18-44 group, Meghalaya is marginally ahead with 23,142 inoculations. The corresponding figures for Mizoram and Nagaland are 10,676 and 7,376 respectively.

Assam: Co-WIN glitches vex 18-plus in search for jab slots | Guwahati News

GUWAHATI: After health minister Keshab Mahanta tweeted that Assam has 3.65 lakh Covid-19 vaccines in stock, 1.49 lakh for the 45+ and 2.16 lakh for the 18 to 44 year category, the young generation was left confused about the purpose of creating a vaccine bank when the need of the hour was urgent inoculation given the steady rise in the number of cases. “I have been trying for a slot for the last five-six days but have not got any. I found 200 slots in my location in Guwahati on Sunday but all slots vanished within seconds of clicking on the select button. This is happening with many of my friends,” said Braja Thakuria, a youth, who registered his name on Co-WIN on May 3.
