Burlington voters will consider approving a higher municipal tax rate when they cast ballots this Town Meeting Day, the first proposed rate hike in three.
LaSalle Council has approved a 1.95% Municipal Tax Rate increase in principle. The 2021 Budget By-law will be presented at a Regular Meeting of Council in January.
“This year, the budgeting process was not easy,” said Mayor Marc Bondy. “Administration knew that this was going to be a tough budget and all departments kept service level increases to a minimum or status quo. Administration presented us with a very responsible budget.”
The budget requires a $1.7M levy increase over the 2020 Municipal Budget, bringing the general levy to $38.4M. The increases include approximately $342,800 for Police Services, $783,000 for inflationary pressures, $300,000 for long term capital contribution and $287,200 for growth and service level increases.
