Police had used a dog to track the man down. Authorities say, when officerswent to make an arre, the man pulled ut a gun and started shooting. Police returned fire, fatally wounding the suspect. Those in the area waking up to the news were startled. Its scary. It seems the shootings ar all that way, toward the Southeast Side and northeast side. Nearby drug store. When officers pulled them over, one of the men got out and fled. Two officers used a police k9 to track the man down, here, within the block. As they closed in to make an arrest, the suspect opened fire, shooting a weapon at the officers. They fired back. The man, who police say was in his early 20s, was fatally wounded. He has since died from his injuries. The two officers and the k9 were not hurt. Police are waiting to release the suspects name until family has been notified. As part of procedure, te two officers involved in the shooting are now on paid administrative leave. The Iowa Division of criminal investigation is looking into the incident.
