NELSON Mandela Bay Municipality official Noxolo Nqwazi was arrested for fraud, money laundering and violating the Municipal Financial Management Act on Thursday, 29 September.
In a deliberate effort to strengthen the management of the City of Johannesburg and service delivery programmes, the Council, on receipt of a report from the Multi-Party Government’s Mayoral Committee, passed a resolution that authorised the Executive Mayor to place the Acting City Manager, Mr Floyd Brink, on special leave. This was done in order to give an independent investigator the space to investigate allegations of misconduct as expressed by an ENS investigation into non-compliance with procurement processes for portable handheld communication devices and CCTV equipment for the Public Safety Department.
Mayor Mpho Moerane’s claim that Johannesburg’s recent new deal that secured additional power supply capacity of 220MW from the Kelvin Power Station qualifies the City for an exemption of stages 1 and 2 of loadshedding, is patently false. This comes after Eskom announced the return of stage 2 loadshedding last night, which the City rejects. Further confusion was added when City Power announced their loadshedding schedule, only to later claim there would be no loadshedding for Johannesburg at all. Despite this, residents continue expressing frustration at being shut off according to the loadshedding schedule.
